ABASEIKO
JAPANESE
SPITZ
Hilary Stephen, founder of Lindenbrae Kennels, foundation member of the Border Collie Club of Victoria, life member of Warringal Obedience Dog Club, and very special friend to so many in the Border Collie, Japanese Spitz, show, obedience and tracking communities, died peacefully on 3 January 2005. Hilary was an extraordinary woman in so many ways founded Lindenbrae Kennels and Abaseiko Kennels (Border Collies and Japanese Spitz respectively). She showed and trialed her dogs in obedience and tracking with great success. She did TV and commercial work. Zheni was the Border Collie in 'The Henderson Kids' and 'Five Mile Creek'. She got a great sense of achievement from having gained a best in group and best in trial with her lovely Zheni on the same day up at Wagga back in the days when everyone said you couldn't do obedience with show dogs. Hilary took up tracking in her very late 60's with her show titled Japanese, Spitz Dayia, and was thrilled to achieve her tracking titles. Hilary adored her Border Collies; her commitment was the breed versatile dogs; intelligent, beautifully conformed and able to excel in all endeavors. She bred beautiful, intelligent pups with meticulous attention to genetics, nutrition, health care, socialisation, stimulation and finding wonderful homes. Hilary was the very best of mentors - so careful about all that she did in relation to her dogs and so generous with her time and information - it is hard to imagine there being anyone better to deliver puppies and sit around a whelping box with. Dogs of her breeding have gone on to great achievements in show, obedience, tracking and agility, as beloved family companions, animal assisted therapy dogs, and as foundation breeding dogs / bitches at many kennels including Jarrebor, Moystonhill, Bordarita, Khayoz, Lochardin, and Delroyal. Hilary spared no effort in supporting her puppy purchasers (and the many people she gave dogs to) with care, support. She made many, many great friends through her dog activities. Hilary was great at lots of things too - mother and grandmother, university lecturer, traveller, adventure seeker. It is quite overwhelming to think of all our lovely olds dog (Lindy, Seren, Zheni, Indi, Finn, Taryn, Lochie, Seibi, Kiko, Denke, Emma, Zac amongst many others) greeting Hilary with such joy, wherever they might all be together.
